History and locations

Prospetto Distum

The Department of Humanities. Literature, Cultural Heritage, Educational Sciences (DISTUM is the Italian acronym) is located in the heart of the city.

Its premises are located in the oldest street in Foggia, in the building complex of Via Arpi, which was renovated, redeveloped and inaugurated on 30 September 2013, with the then Minister of Culture and Tourism (Massimo Bray).

The two historic buildings are located at numbers 155 and 176. Former convent and hospital buildings, they are now multidisciplinary and avant-garde environments, enhancing the cultural and landscape heritage of the city. Such buildings are ready to welcome students, who can thus study and live their university experience in a rich and stimulating context.

Adjoining the building complex in Via Arpi no. 176 is the Church of San Giovanni di Dio, rebuilt in 1748.

The building complex works and excavations

Two archaeological excavations were carried out during the renovation work on the building complex in Via Arpi no. 176, which began in 2010. Interesting data could thus be acquired on the use of the areas examined and their progressive transformations in the medieval and modern period.

Il Distum e l'arte
Opere d'arte Distum
